ETIAS will not launch until the last quarter of 2026 - ETA in operation for UK travel
The launch of the new ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) is now expected in the last quarter of 2026. The European Union will inform about the start of ETIAS several months prior to its launch. We will always inform you of the detailed requirements for your travels with us prior to your tour. All you need for the time being is your passport which should be valid for at least 6 months from your planned return date.
ETIAS is a new electronic system that visitors from countries that are part of visa-waiver agreements with Europe (referring here basically to the common outside border called the “Schengen Area” that allows free movement between most European countries) will be required to use before entry to Europe. The system is like the US system that visitors to the USA from visa-free countries had to use for many years. Its purpose is to check the security credentials of all visitors prior to entry. There will be a brief online application and a small fee to receive a travel authorization prior to departure. There will still be no visa required for citizens of the United States, Canada, and Australia, for example. Your ETIAS travel authorization is valid for three years or until the travel document you used in your application expires - whichever comes first.

The United Kingdom has already implemented a similar system this year, called ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization). If you are visiting the UK, you will need to apply before travel. Please visit https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-an-electronic-travel-authorisation-eta for more information.
